Pick #1: Damien Martinez – Miami – More than 60.5 Rushing Yards
It’s been a bit of a revolving door in the Miami backfield to start the season. However, Martinez is the RB to target here now that the cupcake schedule is nearing an end. In their only halfway competitve game this season (the opener vs. Florida), Martinez carried the ball 15 times for 65 yards. This is a guy who racked up nearly 100 yards per game last season on 195 carries. Tonight, he’ll face a VA Tech team that has been horrendous against the run, allowing 181.0 yards per game on the ground.
With Miami sitting as a 17-point favorite and a potentially sloppy field in Miami, this game script sets up nicely for Martinez to see a heavy workload once again. Pick #2: Giles Jackson – Washington – More than 53.5 Receiving Yards
It’s Will Rogers’ fifth year behind center as a QB for a major college program, and it hasn’t taken him long to start clicking with senior wideout Giles Jackson in Seattle. Jackson enters tonight’s game leading the Huskies with 27 receptions and 342 receiving yards through the first four games. Jackson is also in his fifth collegiate season and will look to bounce back from a quiet game against Northwestern his last time out.
With Denzel Boston emerging as a dangerous deep-threat weapon for Rogers, Jackson should find plenty of space to work with in the slot tonight against a Rutgers defense that has really yet to be tested through the air this season. Jackson should get back to the 5-7 reception territory tonight, and that should be plenty to push him past 54 receiving yards.
