Pick #1: Emmett Brown – San Jose State – More than 256.5 Passing Yards

While San Jose State has yet to play against any top-notch competition, it’s not like this Washington State defense will win any post-season awards this year. Emmett Brown is a Wazzu transfer and is tearing it up with the Spartans in his first season as a starter. Through three games, he is averaging 305 passing yards and three TD passes per game thus far.

Meanwhile, Washington State is once again a bottom-feeding defense as they’ve allowed 301 passing yards per game through their first three contests. Entering the game as 12-point dogs sets up well for a night full of San Jose State looking to throw he ball early and often. Brown has surpassed this number in all three starts this season and figures to do it a fourth time this evening against his former teammates.

Pick #2: Jahmal Banks – Nebraska – Fewer than 3.5 Receptions

Jahmal Banks was Wake Forest’s leading receiver last season, and that appears to be what this number (3.5 receptions) is reflecting. However, after grabbing just two receptions for two yards (yes, 2 for 2) against Colorado earlier this month, he followed it up with another dud against Northern Iowa. In that game, he had just a single reception for 13 yards.

Until we’re proven otherwise, it appears that he is not Dylan Raiola’s go-to receiver at Nebraska, as the Cornhuskers have really spread the ball around through their first three games. Illinois has allowed just 151 yards per game through the air this season, and it would benefit the Cornhuskers to try and get their ground game working to help protect their freshman quarterback in his first BIG10 challenge. I don’t like Banks’ chances to haul in 4+ balls this evening.
