Pick #1: Will Warren – New York Yankees – More than 4.5 Hits Allowed

It’s been a rough go for Will Warren in his first big league season. He owned an ugly 6.11 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 95.2 innings of work at AAA before his promotion. Things have not been any better with the Yankees, as he’ll take the mound this afternoon owning a 9.68 ERA and 2.00 WHIP after four starts with the big club. This matchup is not terrifying by any stretch, but the Cardinals do put the ball in play, and they have heated up a bit down the stretch. Warren has surrendered at least seven hits in each of his last three starts, making this line look just a hit or two too light.

Pick #2: James Wood – Washington Nationals – More than 1.5 Total Bases

Javier Assad has pitched well for Chicago, but he’s been a bit less effective both on the road and against right-handed batters. On the other hand, James Wood is proving why he’s such a highly-touted prospect, as he’s posted a .383 wOBA against right-handed pitching thus far in his rookie season.

Wood picked up another hit in last night’s game and is hitting .325 with a .941 OPS over the last 30 days. He’s settled into the #2 hole of this Washington lineup and I like this 1.17x multiplier.
