Pick #1: Shohei Ohtani – Los Angeles Dodgers – More than 1.5 Total Bases

Ohtani boasts an impressive .444 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season. After a short slump, Ohtani has bounced back strongly, hitting homers in consecutive games. He’s already reached the 40/40 milestone and is gunning for a historic 50/50 season. Additionally, he’s been outstanding at Dodger Stadium, where he holds a remarkable 1.050 OPS. A pair of singles or any extra-base hit will get this done, making it a fine option to start this slip.

Pick #2: Luis Ortiz – Pittsburgh Pirates – Fewer than 4.5 Strikeouts

Despite a strong performance last outing, Luis Ortiz’ strikeout rate has been nothing to write home about, with a 5.50 K/9 since the All-Star break—the second-lowest among qualified MLB pitchers. At PNC Park this season, Ortiz has managed only 32 strikeouts over 50 innings. His 5.68 xFIP since the break is also among the worst in the league. Also, Ortiz has exceeded five strikeouts in only one of his last six starts. With the Cincinnati bats coming alive in last night’s game, I expect them to get to Ortiz before he can pick up 5+ strikeouts this afternoon.
