Pick #1: Framber Valez – Houston Astros – Fewer than 4.5 Hits Allowed

Valdez struggled a bit out of the gates this season, but the southpaw has undoubtedly found his groove down the stretch. Over his last six starts, he’s rocking a 2.48 ERA and has only allowed 23 hits in 36.1 innings of work. In fact, since the All-Star break, he’s holding opposing hitters to a minuscule .149 batting average.

Today, he draws the top matchup on the board against the visiting Chicago White Sox. Chicago owns an ugly .220 team batting average this season, and their 76 wRC+ against left-handed pitching is easily the worst mark in the American League. Valdez has allowed four or fewer hits in four of his last five starts and should work his way around trouble this afternoon.

Pick #2: Bobby Witt Jr. – Kansas City Royals – More than 1.5 Total Bases

Bobby Witt might just be the MVP this season, but he seems a bit overshadowed by the likes of Judge and Ohtani. He doubled in last night’s game and now has at least one hit in all but one single game since the All-Star break. As if hitting .351 with a 1.021 OPS on the season wasn’t good enough, he’s picked things up a notch and owns a .465 average and 1.387 OPS over the last 30 days.

Witt owns a .435 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season and has a nice matchup awaiting him today against Andrew Abbott and the Cincinnati Reds. Among qualified pitchers this season, Abbott owns an MLB-high 4.92 xFIP, and we’ve started to see signs of weakness as he owns a 4.39 ERA and an ugly 1.61 WHIP over his last five starts.
