Pick #1: Ke’Bryan Hayes – Pittsburgh Pirates – Fewer than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Hayes has been frigid at the plate lately, going hitless again last night. He is now just 3 for his last 28, with a single home run (which gave him is only run and RBI during that stretch) to go along with 11 strikeouts. It won’t be easy for Hayes to get things turned around today as he’ll have to deal with Luis Castillo, who is in the midst of another solid season in Seattle.
Hayes is batting just .217 this season against right-handed pitching, while Castillo has held righties to just a .194 average and .242 wOBA this season. Hayes has slipped to the bottom third of the Pittsburgh batting order and is unlikely to cause much damage this afternoon.
Pick #2: Hunter Brown – Houston Astros – More than 6 Strikeouts
Hunter Brown’s recent turnaround highlights has coincided with Houston steadying the ship. After a rough start, he has excelled over his last 15 games, boasting a 2.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 98 strikeouts in 90 innings. His 2.80 xFIP since the All-Star break suggests more success is on the way for the 25-year-old. He’s been better at Minute Maid Park this season and has an extremely favorable matchup against the White Sox, who have the lowest team wOBA in the MLB. Brown has recorded at least six strikeouts in 11 of his last 14 starts, and I expect him to exceed that number again today.
