Pick #1: Miles Mikolas – St. Louis Cardinals – More than 6 Hits Allowed
This season, Mikolas has been inconsistent, with more bad than good, as evidenced by his inability to reach the 5th inning in his last two starts. His home performance has been particularly troubling, with a dismal 6.38 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 10 starts at Busch Stadium.
Mikolas has been generous to hitters from both sides of the plate, and he now faces a potent Dodgers lineup that boasts a .331 team wOBA, ranking 4th in the MLB. The Dodgers smacked him around in their only prior meeting this season, and Mikolas has allowed at least seven hits in five straight games. I expect him to find himself in plenty of trouble again this evening… early and often.
Pick #2: Patrick Corbin – Washington Nationals – Higher than 3.5 Earned Runs Allowed
Patrick Corbin has been abysmal once again this season. He will take the mound tonight owning a 1-7 record, 6.68 ERA and 1.72 WHIP in 12 road starts this season. These Philly hitters have historically crushed Corbin (Harper, Realmuto, Bohm, Hayes, Schwarber, Stott…. you name it). Philadelphia also happens to own an MLB-best .341 team wOBA against lefties this season. Corbin is in trouble.
