Pick #1: Nolan Arenado – St. Louis Cardinals – More than 6.5 Fantasy Points

Andrew Abbott owns an ugly 5.06 xFIP in his last 12 starts (dating back to 6/1) and was just blasted for six earned runs in five innings against the Marlins last week. Abbot has struggled against right-handed batters, allowing a .338 wOBA and owning a 5.11 xFIP on the season against them. Nolan Arenado has been a thorn in Abbott’s side in their previous meetings, going 5 for 10 with a pair of bombs.

It has been a terrible season for Arenado, but the veteran slugger is finally starting to heat up at the plate. He owns a .351 average and .847 OPS thus far in August and should be refreshed after the rare day off on Sunday.

 

Pick #2: Aaron Judge – New York Yankees – More than 10.0 Fantasy Points

Rookie Ky Bush struggled to command the strike zone in his debut last week, surrendering three earned runs across four innings (with five walks) against the struggling Oakland A’s. Tonight, he’ll face a much more formidable challenge in the New York Yankees. If Bush continues to issue free passes, he’s likely to run into serious trouble against this high-powered lineup.

Meanwhile, Aaron Judge has been unstoppable this season, and his dominance against left-handed pitching is particularly noteworthy. With a .465 wOBA against southpaws, the highest among qualified hitters in MLB, Judge’s performance against lefties shouldn’t be overlooked. He went 3-for-3 yesterday, including his 42nd home run of the year, and is batting north of .400 over the past month. Expect him to maintain this ridiculous pace in this mouth-watering matchup against the unproven lefty… and if Bush gets an early hook, the White Sox still own the third-worst bullpen in MLB.
