Pick #1: Vladimir Guerrero – Toronto Blue Jays – More than 1.5 Total Bases
With two more hits last night, Guerrero might officially be the hottest batter on the planet. He pushed his hitting streak to 21 games and is now hitting .500 since the All-Star break (72 ABs) with nine home runs. He has a terrific home matchup awaiting him tonight, opposite Osvaldo Bido and his 5.22 xFIP. Guerrero owns an absurd 1.000 OPS at the Rogers Centre this season and should cruise past 1.5 total bases this evening with ease.
Pick #2: Chris Flexen – Chicago White Sox – More than 4.5 Hits Allowed
Picking on Chris Flexen has been a profitable endeavor down the stretch. He didn’t make it out of the second inning in his last start (but still gave up 7 hits). Since mid-June, he now owns an MLB-worst 5.58 xFIP and 1.63 WHIP. Opposing hitters own a .276 average, and left-handed batters have particularly roughed him up, posting a .890 OPS.
Craig Counsell can roll out a pretty lefty-heavy lineup tonight and I expect Chicago to put up some crooked numbers early and often. The White Sox haven’t won in a Flexen start since May 8th for crying out loud. I don’t see this line improving any time before the first pitch, so jump on it early.
