Pick #1: Matt Chapman – San Francisco Giants – More than 1.5 Total Bases

The San Francisco righties are set up for a strong matchup. Patrick Corbin has struggled mightily this season. In his latest outing, he allowed 11 runs (10 earned) and now holds a 5.88 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP to go along with a dismal 2-11 record. Right-handed batters are feasting on Corbin, sporting a .370 wOBA and smacking 14 homers in just 97.1 innings against him.

Matt Chapman, who’s been on a tear lately, has homered in back-to-back games for the Giants. Over his last eight games, he’s hit .419 with three home runs. Chapman’s .383 wOBA against lefties this season suggests he’ll continue his hot streak tonight and rough up Corbin.

Pick #2: Jose Altuve – Houston Astros – More than 1.5 Total Bases

Altuve has crushed left-handed pitching his entire career and is one of the top contact hitters in baseball over the past decade. Altuve was cold at the plate in the series against Tampa over the weekend, but he still rocks a .374 wOBA and 144 wRC+ against left-handed pitching this season. He has a long history against Andrew Heaney (mostly successful) and has really struggled in his last two outings. This is a tough spot for the southpaw to “get right” and I expect Altuve to cause plenty of damage in a game Houston badly needs a win.
