Pick #1: Corey Seager – Texas Rangers – More than 7.0 Fantasy Points

Seager picked up multiple hits once again in last night’s game and will step into the batter’s box this evening owning a 1.015 OPS thus far in the month of July. Kevin Gausman is two-time All-Star, but the right-hander has somewhat suprisingly surrendered a 38.1% hard-hit rate this season. That mark is the worst in all of baseball among qualified pitchers.

With Seager owning a .386 wOBA and .242 ISO against right-handed pitching this season, I expect him to get the barrel on the bat and do some damage. If you’re a fan of BvsP, then that’s just the icing on the cake as Seager has crushed Gausman in their previous meetings; going 10 for 21 with three doubles and a home run. Seager can get us over this target in so many different ways.

Pick #2: Andrew Abbott – Cincinnati Reds – Fewer than 5.0 Pitcher Strikeouts

On the surface, Abbott has had a solid second season with the Cincinnati Reds. But his 4.92 xFIP suggests that his 3.19 ERA after 20 starts might be as much about luck as it is about skill. Abbott’s strikeout numbers have been inconsistent all season, and lately, they seem to be going in the wrong direction. His 6.93 strikeouts per nine innings isn’t very impressive, and he hasn’t had more than five strikeouts in five of his last seven starts. Randy Arozarena, who Tampa Bay recently traded away, was one of their batters who struck out a lot this season (24.7%), which won’t help Abbott’s strikeout numbers here.
