Pick #1: Isaac Paredes – Tampa Bay Rays – More than .5 Total Bases
Paredes has been ice-cold at the plate, but hopefully, the ASB revitalized him. This afternoon, things are aligning for him to have a nice day at the ballpark. Paredes will enter the batter’s box owning an impressive .304 batting average and .921 OPS against southpaws. Nestor Cortes has seen the wheels fall off a bit down the stretch and has also been brutalized by Paredes in their previous meetings. In 19 at-bats against Cortes, Paredes has picked up six hits, including a double and a pair of home runs. With Cortes having given up at least five hits in seven of his last eight games, I’m jumping on board.
Pick #2: Brenton Doyle – Colorado Rockies – More than 1.5 Total Bases
On the surface, the matchup against Logan Webb looks somewhat daunting. However, this is a Coors Field game and Logan Webb actually enters today’s game having given up as many hits as any other pitcher in baseball this season (126). Doyle is flat-out locked in right now at the plate. He homered again last night…. his NINTH home run already in July. He owns a .422 wOBA this season at Coors and should find himself back in the cleanup spot for the Rockies today. A couple of singles and/or an extra-base hit seems rather likely.
