Sean Newcomb MORE THAN 4.5 Hits Allowed
Newcomb hasn’t seen much consistent action in the majors over the past few years, but he managed to crack the Red Sox rotation as their fifth starter. However, the results so far have been rough. Through three starts, he has yet to make it out of the fourth inning and has surrendered at least six hits in each outing. He’s currently allowing over 1.5 hits per inning pitched — a troubling trend heading into a matchup with a Rays lineup that’s more than capable of stringing together hits in a hurry. This feels like a prime spot for Tampa Bay to capitalize and really get to Newcomb early and often.
Matthew Boyd MORE THAN 4.5 Strikeouts
Boyd has been consistently cashing this line, going over it in all three starts this season and in 10 of his last 11 outings dating back to last year. He’s been piling up strikeouts at an impressive clip, averaging 9.53 K’s per nine innings. While he’s up against a tough Padres lineup known for their ability to put the ball in play, Boyd’s recent form and strikeout upside are hard to ignore. Despite the challenging matchup, this feels like a strong spot to back Boyd to keep the momentum rolling.
