Shane Smith LESS THAN 5.5 Hits Allowed
Smith has been a bright spot for the White Sox to open the season, delivering strong performances in each of his first three starts. Through 17 2/3 innings, he’s allowed just 9 hits — a testament to his ability to keep hitters off balance and limit solid contact. That stretch includes a solid outing against the Red Sox last week, where he gave up just 5 hits. If he can continue to command his changeup the way he has so far, this sets up as another promising opportunity for him to shine on the mound.
Ben Brown MORE THAN 3.5 Hits Allowed
Brown has struggled to find his rhythm early this season, surrendering 21 hits over just 15 innings pitched. With Javier Assad nearing a return from the IL, Brown’s spot in the rotation could soon be in jeopardy if those struggles continue. He faces a tough challenge here against a Diamondbacks lineup that’s been producing well against right-handed pitching, batting .268 with a .301 BABIP. Given the way Arizona has been swinging the bats and Brown’s recent form, this feels like a tough spot for him — and one where he’s likely to allow his fair share of hits.
