Andrew Vaughn MORE THAN 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts
Vaughn has been in a bit of a slump to start the season, striking out in 7 of his last 8 games while posting a batting average of just .131. He’s got a tough task ahead of him today against JP Sears, a pitcher who’s kept him in check throughout their previous matchups — Vaughn is just 2-for-10 against him in his career. Given his recent struggles and a less-than-favorable matchup, this feels like another spot where Vaughn could continue to have a tough time at the plate and rack up another strikeout.
Griffin Canning LESS THAN 17.5 Pitching Outs
Canning has hovered just below the 90-pitch mark in all three of his starts this season, yet he’s still struggled to make it out of the fifth inning in any of them. That trend isn’t new either — he averaged right around 90 pitches per outing last year as well. With a WHIP north of 1.5, he’s had trouble keeping runners off the bases, and now he’s up against a Cardinals lineup that’s been swinging the bats well to start the season. Given the matchup and his recent inefficiency, this number feels a bit too ambitious for Canning in this spot.
