Bailey Ober LESS THAN 5.5 Strikeouts
Ober has stayed under this strikeout line in all three of his starts to open the season, and he now faces a Mets lineup that ranks among the top 10 in the league when it comes to avoiding strikeouts. While it’s encouraging that he was stretched out to six innings in his most recent outing, there are some underlying concerns. His velocity is down this year, which has resulted in a noticeable shift — more fly ball outs and fewer swing-and-miss opportunities. Given the matchup and current trends, this looks like another spot where Ober could struggle to rack up strikeouts.
Jarren Duran MORE THAN 0.5 Hits
Duran has been heating up lately, going over this line in four of his last five games and now hitting it in 11 of 13 overall to start the season. He draws a fairly favorable matchup against Pepiot, who’s allowing opponents to hit .262 against him with a 1.50 WHIP — numbers that suggest there should be opportunities for the Red Sox offense to get going. With Boston looking to bounce back, this feels like a strong spot for Duran to stay hot and deliver another solid performance at the plate.
