Pick #1: DJ Lagway – Florida Gators – Fewer than 230.5 Passing Yards
Lagway looks to have a bright future in Gainsville, and perhaps on Sundays in the very near future, but he’s been nothing more than mediocre in his freshman season. He’s 5-1 now as the starting QB for Florida, but he’s failed to pass for more than 180 yards in each of the last two games, and his season-high in completions sits at just 18 (against Samford in early September).
We saw Billy Napier lean heavily on the running game against the rival FSU Seminoles in their last game (38 carries for 235 yards on the ground), and that will likely be the case again in the Gasparilla Bowl. Their opponent, the Tulane Green Wave, has been one of the toughest teams to pass on in the nation this season, allowing just 167.9 passing yards per game.
Pick #2: Jeremiyah Love – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – More than 81.5 Rushing Yards
Indiana has the top rushing defense in College football, which is why this line sits where it does. Love has sailed past this number in four of the last five games and is averaging a ridiculous 7.1 yards per carry on the season. The forecast for this first-ever College Football Playoff game calls for freezing weather, high winds, and potential snow. That likely means a heavy dose of Notre Dame’s elite rushing attack.
It’s strength vs. strength here, and I believe Love and the Fighting Irish will prevail.
