Pick #1: Ben Finley – Akron Zips – More than 198.5 Passing Yards

Akron has dropped five of their last six games, but it hasn’t been because of Ben Finley’s play at QB. From a statistical standpoint, the junior quarterback is having a fine season, having thrown for nearly 2000 yards with 12 touchdowns. If you eliminate the season-opening shellacking from the Ohio State Buckeyes, Finley has averaged 237.75 passing yards per game over the last eight games.

Tonight, the Zips enter as two touchdown underdogs against Northern Illinois and that should be enough to keep Finley chucking the ball around the field all evening. This line seems like a bit of an overreaction to NIU owning the 11th-best pass defense in the country and their win earlier this season over the Fighting Irish. However, since that Notre Dame victory, they own a modest 3-4 record. It won’t be easy for Finley and the Zips, but I do expect him to push past 200 passing yards tonight.

Pick #2: Parker Navarro – Ohio Bobcats – More than 45.5 Rushing Yards

Parker Navarro has this BobCats offense rolling. They’ve scored 40+ points in back-to-back games and head into tonight’s battle with Eastern Michigan with a 6-3 record and second in the MAC. Navarro has proven to be a dual-threat quarterback and is now averaging 69.5 rushing yards per start, well in excess of this modest 45.5-yard target.

Ohio sits as 11.5-point favorites in this game and should be able to move the ball up and down the field against Eastern Michigan’s mediocre (to be friendly) defense. Navarro has the legs to bust a long run and has seen at least eight carries in all but one of his starts this season. Another 60+ rushing yard performance seems likely for Navarro in this one, so I’ll be jumping on board.
