Pick #1: Gerrit Cole – New York Yankees – Fewer than 5.5 Strikeouts

The Yankees will turn to their ace Gerrit Cole to try to even the World Series at two games a piece. While he looks to be getting back into top-notch form, his strikeouts just aren’t what they used to be. Cole has picked up exactly four strikeouts in each of his first four playoff starts to start the post-season.

During the regular season, Cole’s strikeout rate dipped to one of the lowest points of his career (25.4% K%). That number has further declined in post-season play to 17.0%. The Dodgers not only have one of the most dangerous lineups in MLB, but they also do their damage while minimizing their strikeouts (just 21.4% K% during the regular season). The Yankees have their backs against the wall once again tonight, and Cole hasn’t reached 90 pitches in any of these playoff starts, so it wouldn’t be surprising in the least to see Aaron Boone make an early call to the bullpen.

Pick #2: Quinton Cooley – Liberty Flames – More than 84.5 Rushing Yards

Cooley was held in check last week, rushing for just 37 yards in Liberty’s first loss of the season. However, during their five-game winning streak to start the season, he rushed for over 100+ yards in four of those games and averaged 109 rushing yards per game. Tonight, Liberty will play host to a Jacksonville State squad that has surrendered a troubling 179.3 rushing yards per game this season.

Cooley torched this team for 163 yards on 28 carries (and a pair of TDs) in their only meeting last season. The Flames should be eager to get back to their winnings way tonight in what should be a competitive football game throughout. I like Cooley to approach another 100+ yard performance.
