Pick #1: Walker Buehler – Los Angeles Dodgers – More than 14.5 Pitching Outs
Baring something disastrous, I really like the chances of Buehler pitching through 5 innings in Game 3. He got through five in his first Playoff Appearance this season despite being rather ineffective the entire evening against the Padres last week. He has pitched at least five innings in six straight starts.
Perhaps most importantly, though, is the Dodgers’ extensive use of their bullpen in Monday afternoon’s game, coupled with this being the first of three games in a row in NYC. Dave Roberts will be looking for Buehler to not only get back on track this evening but also to help alleviate a lot of the stress on the bullpen. I fully expect 5+ innings from Buehler in this one.
Pick #2: Kejon Owens – Florida International – More than 54.5 Rushing Yards
Switching gears, we’ll look for some mid-week college football action for the second play. The UTEP Miners enter tonight’s game having allowed an ugly 234.2 rushing yards per game this season; good for 128th among FBS teams. Owens is the leading back for the Panthers and has averaged 13.34 carries per game over the last three games. Last season, in more of a complimentary role to Shomari Lawrence, Owens torched the Miners for 82 yards on ten carries (and a TD). As touchdown favorites, the game script favors a fairly run-heavy attack from the Panthers this evening. I’m jumping on Owens to get MORE THAN 54.5 rushing yards early before this creeps higher.
