Pick #1: Connor McDavid – Edmonton Oilers – Fewer than 3.5 SOG

He is the best player on the planet. McDavid racked up a ridiculous 23 goals and 60 assists in just 37 home games last season. Still….. This number is just a bit too aggressive. McDavid “only” fired 4+ SOG in 39 of 101 games played last season (including the playoffs). If you’d like to ignore the playoffs, he only reached four SOG in 28 of 76 regular season games.

No one can slow him down, and it’s terrifying to fade him, but Mark Scheifele is a top-notch two-way forward who will likely shadow him as often as possible this evening. In three meetings against the Jets last season, McDavid fired a single SOG in all three contests.

Pick #2: Matthew Knies – Toronto Maple Leafs – More than 0.5 Points

Knies was solid in his rookie campaign with the Maple Leafs, grabbing 15 goals and 20 assists in 80 games during the regular season and then adding a pair of goals and an assist in their seven playoff games. Now, Knies will look to take another step forward and will have every opportunity as he’s slated to join Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner on the Leafs’ top forward line. He’s also in the mix to grab steady work with the second power-play unit.

The former second-round pick has essentially been a point-per-game producer at every stop along his journey to the NHL and getting a 1.05x return feels good here in a solid matchup against the rival Montreal Canadiens who allowed an ugly 3.43 goals against per game last season.
