Pick #1: Brendan Rodgers – Colorado Rockies – More than 1.5 Total Bases
Brendan Rodgers has been striking out a lot lately, but he’s still producing as a middle-of-the-order bat for the Rockies. He picked up a hit last night and is now hitting .300 with a .820 OPS during the month of August. Rodgers has mashed left-handed pitching this season (.368 wOBA), and draws a fine Coors Field matchup tonight against the talented, but very raw, Max Meyer.
As expected, Rodgers has also hit very well in the Mile High City, as he owns a .322 average and .850 OPS in 200+ ABs at Coors. We should see plenty of runs once again in this game, and Rodgers figures to be heavily involved in the damage.
Pick #2: Kyle Henricks – Chicago Cubs – More than 5.5 Hits Allowed
Kyle Hendricks’ has dealt with substantial road woes this season, as evidenced by an MLB-worst 7.16 ERA on the road and the lowest road strikeout rate in the National League at just 13.1%. Additionally, left-handed batters have had considerable success against him, posting a .380 wOBA. This trend is problematic because the Pittsburgh lineup features several key left-handed hitters, including Reynolds, Cruz, Tellez, McKinney, and Grandal.
