Pick #1: Bailey Ober – Minnesota Twins – More than 17.5 Pitching Outs
Bailey Ober has been a bright spot for the Twins this season. He’ll enter action tonight carrying a rock-solid 3.52 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. Ober is averaging 5.2 innings per start over the season, and is consistently pitching deep into games lately; pitching at least six innings in his last nine outings. During this stretch, he’s been remarkable, with a minuscule 1.76 ERA, a stellar 0.73 WHIP, and 72 strikeouts in 62.1 innings. This evening, Ober faces the Texas Rangers, who own the 5th-lowest team wOBA (.297) against right-handed pitchers this season. Ober is in a groove and I expect it to continue tonight.
Pick #2: Zach Wheeler – Philadelphia Phillies – Fewer than 5.0 Hits Allowed
Zach Wheeler has been on a tear lately, delivering back-to-back dominant performances that have earned him a spot in the National League Cy Young race once again. His form has been especially sharp at Citizens Bank Park, where he boasts a stellar 2.48 ERA and has allowed just 51 hits in 76.1 innings this season.
He has been particularly effective against the Washington Nationals batters, having largely neutralized everyone in their lineup except for CJ Abrams. In his last encounter with the Nationals, Wheeler was outstanding, allowing only three hits over 7.2 innings and cruising to a victory. He has only allowed more than 5 hits in six of his 23 starts this season.
