Pick #1: Yusei Kikuchi – Houston Astros – More than 5.5 Strikeouts
Yusei Kikuchi has been exceptional since July 1st, boasting a 33.5% strikeout rate. Good for the third-highest rate among qualified starters in MLB during that span. Since joining the Astros, he’s already tallied 19 strikeouts in just two starts. Additionally, he fanned 11 Rays hitters in his previous matchup against them in early August.
Tampa Bay has struggled with strikeouts since the All-Star break, sitting sixth in the league with a 25.2% strikeout rate. Kikuchi has posted 5+ strikeouts in eight straight starts and has bested this number in six of those.
Pick #2: Ketel Marte – Arizona Diamondbacks – More than 1.5 Total Bases
Ketel Marte has been locked in at the plate lately. He is a solid choice to add to this slip thanks to his recent offensive surge, as he owns an impressive 1.250 OPS over the last 30 days. He has a long track record of destruction against left-handed pitching, and that has been no different this season, as he’s sporting a 1.121 OPS against Southpaws.
Marte has consistently handled the bat well against Austin Gomber, boasting an 8-for-21 record with two doubles and two home runs in their previous meetings. He also excels at Chase Field, where he has a .340 batting average and a .980 OPS this season. He should have a big evening and cash this slip with the late-night hammer.
