Pick #1: Adley Rutschman – Baltimore Orioles – More than 6.5 Fantasy Points
Rutschman has picked up an extra-base hit in each of the first two games out of the All-Star Break and should keep things rolling again this afternoon. Today, he’ll square up against southpaw Andrew Heaney, and all Rutschman has done this season against lefties is post the following: .378 batting average, .440 wOBA, and .227 ISO (all while striking out at just a 13.7% clip). Meanwhile, Heaney’s struggles to keep the ball in the park have continued this season, as he’s already allowed 14 home runs in 95.0 innings of work. Rutschman’s cool start to July has dropped this line a point or two, so take advantage now while you can.
Pick #2: Andrew Abbott – Cincinnati Reds – Lower than 4.5 Strikeouts
Abbott has put together a fine sophomore season for the Reds, but he is showing signs that he may be running out of steam. With 3 innings of work today, he will surpass his career high of 109.1 innings in a season and perhaps it’s just now starting to show. His 4.85 xFIP has hinted at this regression and the 25-year-old has stayed under this strikeout number in 12 of 19 starts this season. He will face a resilient Washington squad that has posted a solid 19.6% K% over the last 30 days. I’m not confident that Abbott can pitch deep enough in this game to pick up his fifth strikeout.
