Pick #1: Brandon Nimmo – New York Mets – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Tanner Gordon will draw only his second career start in this one. He’s a 26-year-old who owns a career 5.92 ERA and 1.49 WHIP at the AAA level. This doesn’t sound like it will go any better than his first start (5 ER in 6.1 innings against KCR last week). Brandon Nimmo figures to slide back into the #2 hole for the Mets this evening, and he’s been red-hot at the plate lately.
He has now homered in three straight games and will put a five-game hitting streak on the line this evening. I expect him to find himself right in the middle of some major damage in this one.
Pick #2: Sean Manaea – New York Mets – Under 4.5 Hits Allowed
Manaea has been pitching well lately. He is fresh off a six-inning gem in Pittsburgh over the weekend and now owns a miniscule 1.57 ERA over his last five starts. The thing with Manaea is that when he gets in trouble, it’s typically walks that kill him, not hits. In fact, he has only allowed 15 hits against over 28.2 innings in the previously mentioned five starts…. to go along with 14 walks.
He has only allowed 5+ hits in 6 of his 17 starts this season. This Colorado team’s .282 road wOBA is the second-lowest mark in MLB. We can live (perhaps even welcome) the walks with this play, so I’m on board. Tack on a pick from our Goblins tool and roll with a three-legger.
