Quarterbacks
Caleb Williams – USC (DK $9,900/FD $12,800)
Williams is the clear #1 QB on this slate and is a lock-in cash for me. He has huge upside as we have seen all last year and he gets a subpar opponent to start the year. My biggest concern here is how much will Riley Lincoln use his Heisman winner. Last year in a blowout against Rice to start the year, Williams threw for 249 yards and 2 TDs and ran for another 68. This is a pretty good stat line but we need him to do more at this price on DraftKings. It is worth noting, on FanDuel, there is a lot more value and I think he is more viable in all formats.
Hank Bachmeier – Louisiana Tech (DK $5,800/FD $9,500)
This is a name that you will not be expecting to see if you have not followed the QB carousel of the off-season. Bachmeier comes to a Louisiana Tech team that loves to move fast and air it out. He has some top returning WRs and gets a great matchup with an FIU team that was near the bottom of pass defenses last year. I like Bachmeier’s value on DraftKings more than I do on FanDuel but he is viable on both sites.
Running Backs
Marshawn Lloyd – USC (DK $7,400/FD $8,000)
Reports out of camp have been that this will be a committee but Lloyd has been getting a lot of the first reps. The South Carolina transfer has a ton of talent and this is a game that should produce a ton of fantasy value. Lloyd needs to do a lot to make value on DraftKings so I like him a lot more on FanDuel, but I do think he is GPP viable on both sites.
Charvis Thornton – Louisiana Tech (DK $5,400/FD $6,400)
Thornton is a great value play here with several of the top Louisiana Tech RB’s banged up. He should start here and FIU was bottom 5 against the run last year. He should get plenty of volume and is way too cheap on both sites. Tyre Shelton is a game-time decision and if he is in it could eat into Thornton’s carries so we need to watch for that, but Thornton should get decent volume regardless.
Wide Receivers
Kris Mitchell – FIU (DK $5,900/FD $5,900)
Mitchell is the big-play WR for FIU in a game with a nice total and spread. This is a fast-paced offense that will air it out plenty and Mitchell should get a decent number of targets here. This is a game that I really want to target in all formats and I love the upside and his price, especially on FanDuel.
Will Sheppard – Vanderbilt (DK $5,000/FD $8,500)
I am not sure what DraftKings was thinking here but Will Sheppard somehow ended up as the cheapest starting WR for Vandy. He is coming off of a 120-target season and the coaches have said they want to air it out even more. Vandy gets a matchup with Hawaii who was awful on defense last year. While he is cheap on DraftKings, Sheppard will also be very chalky. I do not mind the price on FanDuel either
